Protect your Eyes

Pterygium is a growth on the surface of the eye which invades the clear cornea, causes discomfort and can interfere with vision. The cause is believed to be prolonged exposure to UV radiation from bright sunlight, and dry windy dusty environment. There are steps you can take to reduce the risks - prevention is always a smarter option.

1. Wear sunglasses. UV light can cause damage even when the sky is overcast. Wear sunglasses or prescription glasses which block UV light

2. Wear a hat. Studies have shown hats reduce the risk of eye disease related to extended UV exposure.

3. Beware of reflected light. Reflected light bouncing off water, snow, footpaths and roads intensifies UV exposure. Polarized lenses will give protection from glare.
